What is your newest book?
Between Immigrants and Italians, a memoir of a Gambian working life in Italy, out in November 2026 in paperback and for Kindle.
What do your books write about?
Migration, identity, memory and African imagination, across many forms: memoir, a novel, fantasy, literary horror, letters and poetry. Each book has its own page with a full description on My Books.
Are any of your books only in Italian?
Yes. Il Deserto Non Ha Cielo, my first memoir, published by Kanaga Edizioni, is available only in Italian for now.

Where in The Gambia are you from?
I was born in Basse Dampha Kunda, in the Upper River Region of The Gambia. I now live in Milan, Italy.
How does your Gambian background shape your writing?
Basse Dampha Kunda is the wellspring of my writing. My storytelling draws on the rhythm of Mandinka and Wolof, and on the oral traditions and proverbs passed down by our elders.
What inspired you to write about migration?
My own experience, and the need to show the reality of migration, its challenges and its hopes, as it is lived by the people who live it.
What does the name Lamin Ceesay mean?
Lamin is of West African origin, from the Arabic Al-Amin, meaning “the trustworthy, faithful or honest”. Ceesay is a common Gambian surname of Mandinka origin, a variant of Cissé.
